Country 99 welcomes the Fire & Ice Gala to The Fort Garry Hotel on Thursday, January 25th!
An evening in honour of Desiree Scott, presented by The Asper Foundation.
Desiree Scott is many things. She is an Olympic Champion, a three-times Olympic Medalist, a footballer for Kansas City, and a proud Winnipegger. She is an active ambassador for KidSport Winnipeg, a charity that aims to remove financial barriers to playing sport.
Born in Winnipeg, Desiree grew up participating in soccer, volleyball, track and field, and basketball. She began playing soccer at the age of eight years old.
Quickly earning a reputation as a solid midfielder with exceptional physical play, she has built a reputation as “The Destroyer” thanks to her relentless tackles, her eager pursuit of the ball, and her resilience both on and off the field.
When she played for the University of Manitoba Bisons, she was named a Canadian Interuniversity Sport All-Canadian, earned Canada West All-Star honours twice, and won Canada West Rookie of the Year.
Scott boasts a gold medal from the 2011 Pan American Games and has also won gold at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, which was her third Olympic medal following bronze medals in 2012 in London and in 2016 in Rio.
Scott is not just an ambitious player but also a spectacular coach, especially through the soccer clinics and camps she runs for kids. In support of her receipt of the Trailblazer Award from Pan Am Clinic Foundation, Scott has been an ambassador for the Homeless World Cup since 2014. She is also an athlete ambassador for KidSport Winnipeg, and runs an annual soccer camp for girls on behalf of KidSport Winnipeg.
Having suffered an injury that required surgery, Scott recognizes the need for physical rehab in sport and in life. As she says, “if my rehab process has taught me anything, it’s that I still love this game so much and nothing worth having comes easy.”
This past February, Scott received the Order of Manitoba and the Queen’s Jubilee Medal.
These days, you’ll find her playing for FC Kansas City as midfielder.
The Pan Am Clinic Foundation is honoured to present Desiree Scott with the 2024 Impact Award. Congratulations Desiree!
